Art of Steacy
Location: New York
About:
Paintings that express harmonious moments of human connection - to land, to self, to one other.
How did you get started?
I’ve always loved art, and while teaching art at a public high school in Brooklyn I felt a pull to develop my own practice. I sign my art | STAY - SEE | - the phonetic spelling of my last name - because I’m interested in creating art that asks us to slow down and participate with the present. My aim is to offer a different narrative about what deserves our attention and what we stand to lose if we no longer invest time in contemplation and camaraderie.
What’s your favorite space and why?
Indoors: My living room. There’s a high ceiling, tall windows, many fluffy pillows, shag rugs, and a disco ball that illuminates the room when the late afternoon sun hits just right. While on the couch I can see a park if I look out the windows to my left and the Statue of Liberty if I look straight ahead.
Outdoors: A creek in the Poconos that’s a five minute drive away from the home I grew up in. It’s small and simple and where I find so much peace.
