DIY: Drink It Yourself - The Glass House
We’ve been spending our weekends creating, writing, cooking, listening to records, essentially doing all the things that make us feel good because we need it.
Hell, we all need it, and we all deserve it. But if there’s one thing that screams the weekend, it’s a cold cocktail...or two, or three. Look, we know it may be a Monday, but as the old adage goes, it’s five-ah, you know the rest. Look forward to the evenings with our recipe for a refreshing pick-me-up that you can’t put down.
The Glass House
We call it The Glass House because of it’s clean, citrusy palate with notes of juniper and the awakening aroma of mint. You’ll feel like you’re sipping ozone, surrounded by succulents and being misted by fine ocean spray. The green vintage, hand blown art-deco style glass we put it in kinda helped too.
Fill a shaker with:
1.5 oz. Monkey 47 Gin (We strongly recommend this small batch Schwarzwald Gin because of its distinct flavor and its exotic notes. If you must, Hendrick’s will do.)
.75 oz. Liber & Co Classic Gum Syrup (This is a clean cane syrup alternative, but simple syrup will do just fine.)
Juice from half of a fresh lime
3-4 sprigs of fresh mint
Muddle this mixture. Add ice.
Don’t bastardize the mint. A couple muddles will do.
Shake until the outside of the shaker is cold to touch.
Don’t shake the shit out of the thing. You’re not Tom Cruise in Cocktail - relax. Shaking vigorously will generate friction in the shaker and cause the ice to melt faster and thus dilute your cocktail.
Fill your favorite cocktail glass with crushed ice.
Pour the cocktail mixture and Q Tonic simultaneously over the ice.
Garnish with a big sprig of mint so you can dip your nose in every time you go for a sip.
This drink pairs well with:
Set the mood with a Goober Candle, snuggle up in your Pierced Crewneck Sweatshirt from KkCo, and throw one some Umbrella Symphony by Jay Worthy and Curren$y.
